Beth’s love of art and making things dates back to her early childhood, she became interested in plein air painting when she attended the Maryland Institute College of Art, studying under well-known artist Mark Karnes. Karnes is quoted as saying, “My work is about my connection to my surroundings. The subjects of my pictures are things that are familiar and immediate to me.” Beth certainly can relate in the same way to her paintings. She graduated from MICA with a bachelor’s degree in Drawing. Her work is about capturing the immediacy of a moment in time.

Beth works full-time as a graphic designer for Gregory Welteroth Advertising. On the weekends, when the weather is nice, there’s nothing more exciting for her than packing up her car with oil paints, watercolors, and pochade box in tow, exploring the back roads, and quaint townscapes of Lycoming County, PA, and beyond. It’s common to find Beth and out and about, at baseball games, concerts, and community events documenting life with paint. When Beth visited Portugal in the summers of 2022 and 2023, she traveled with her miniature watercolors and documented her trip and her family’s heritage with small plein-air watercolors. Beth is the Marketing Director of the Bald Eagle Art League and plays fiddle in the string band, SHOOfly. In September 2022, Beth won 1st place in the Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania plein air competition “Canvas the Grove”. Beth’s commissioned oil painting, ”The Greatest Outfield of All-Time”, Fats Jenkins, Oscar Charleston, Rap Dixon of the Harrisburg Giants Negro League was the recent subject of the podcast “Leadership Lessons From the Negro Leagues” by Steve Taddie on May 22, 2023. And her oil painting has been recently been chosen as the winner of the professional category for the 2023 Jerry Malloy Negro League Art competition and will be an upcoming issue of McFarland Publishers’ “Black Ball: A Negro Leagues Journal.” It will be on display at the Negro League Conference in June 2024, in Cooperstown, NY. She was the featured artist at the Genetti last January through February 2023 and her plein air oil painting of “Mowery’s Yellow Barn” was juried into the noted regional “100 Miles” art show last June at Penn College. And in November Beth was the featured artist at the Lycoming Arts Gallery in Williamsport, PA. Beth recently shared on social media, “I’m over the moon excited...I just SOLD my original ‘Mowery’s Yellow Barn’ large oil painting! It will have a new home in NYC! He told me, he recently moved to Manhattan and wanted paintings in his new place to remind him of his hometown area in PA!”

Beth hopes when people look at her work, they feel a connection to what is on the canvas. To see more of Beth’s art please visit bethdejesus.com or find her on Facebook at Beth Dejesus England - Artist.
